Gangster Squad

For the Warner Bros release of Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad, Zoic Studios re-created 1940’s Hollywood Boulevard for the Cabana Club shoot-out. For production VFX Supervisor Ariel Shaw and the Zoic team, the real fun was interpolating details from actual period photographs of the location, including the iconic Musso & Frank Grill, into the filmmakers’ sense of what that environment should look like to convey the romance of the period to a modern audience. Zoic used 2D and 3D techniques to complete the sweeping shots, with CG enhancements of the vehicles and the gun battle.
